Hi, I am in the process of selling a second home that triggers capital gains tax. Tax deductable items include buying and selling fees but because I bought the propert 22 years ago, I have lost the details of the costs I paid dor the legal fees and the stamp duty I paid. Am I allowed to use an estimate or can do I have to ignore these costs as I don't have the suppprting evidence?

Hi GilBob S,
You  can give a reasonable estimate, but you have to explain this in your calculation.
You should contact the Solicitors and stamp duty office first though to see if they have the information.
Thank you.
