My wife and I have gifted part of a residential property, held jointly by us, to our two daughters. We need each to make a CGT return. The property was registered in my name and my wife's married name. My wife is known to HMRC under her professional name. Which name should she use on her CGT return?

Hi
It is not possible to check individual tax records through this forum, if you have a question which relates to your personal tax situation or tax code please contact our helpline.

I didn't ask anyone to check individual tax records. I only wanted to know how HMRC deals with a person using two names, e.g. a maiden name at work (and thus in tax records) and a married name, e.g. on the title documents of a property. The Helpline assistant said he had never heard of such a case. Someone in HMRC must have come across such a case, so may I put the question again, please?

Hi,
As the title is in your married name, you will use that.
Thank you.
