My company needs to purchase a glass panel for a project from Europe. How will the import/customs/VAT etc be applied to the item and how will the declaration work.

Hi Mary,

If you import goods into the UK from Europe then this will be subject to VAT at 20%.
We would always recommend you to use a carrier/freightforwarder to arrange movement of these goods for you and they will also process the declaration and pay any VAT/customs on your behalf.
I would recommend speaking to our Customs Helpline on 03002003700 who can advise of any duties that may be payable.
Most goods coming in from the EU are not subject to import duty as long as those goods originate in the EU.
However it would be worth checking this with the Helpline.

Thank you.
