Refund on import duty C285

i completed a C285 over 30 days ago and have heard nothing back other than an email reference number. we simply left our case in another country with some of our own clothes and DHL charged us import duty which i dont think we should have paid but they would not deliver our case until we did. can anyone advise me how i can chase this up ?
