Hi Philip Fulcher
The EORI team is aware of the issue and a IT ticket has been raised.
The EORI will be in touch regarding the issue.

HI, I have recently registered for a GB and XI eori number however the format is completely different to my VAT number. Why is this? Thanks, Debbie

Did you mention your VAT number when you applied? If not you will have been allocated a non VAT EORI . If you have a non VAT EORI then it will not be linked to your VAT account and you should contact HMRC to cancel it and get one that does contain your VAT number. If you did provide your VAT no the EORI number should be GB followed by your VAT number then usually 000. The XI will start with XI instead of GB

We are a vat registered company and after we had our VAT number we also made an application for EORI number ,following submission of the application we had an EORI number which starts with "GB0 " straight away , the EORI number is valid and allocated to our company name when i check it online , we have our first import pending to be declared , our customs broker has advised us that we can not postpone import VAT because our EORI starts with GB0 and doesn't show our vat number and it should be in format of GB + our VAT number + 000 , please advise if this is correct ? if yes then please can you advise why we have not been given an EORI that is attached to our VAT number ? Many thanks

Hi Mike Abedini
The GB EORI starting GB0 is a non VAT EORI.
This will need to be ended and a new VAT registered EORI issued.
This can be applied for via
Get an EORI number
You will need to supply the following Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) - find your UTR if you do not know it
business start date and Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code - these are in the Companies House register
Government Gateway user ID and password
VAT number and effective date of registration (if you’re VAT registered) - these are on your VAT registration certificate
National Insurance number - if you’re an individual or a sole trader.

Hi, I have registered an Overseas Company (Company No. FCxxxxxx) and a UK Establishment (No. BRxxxxxx) in the UK. I would use this Overseas Company to export goods to this UK Establishment. Do I need to apply for an EORI number for both companies ? Thank you. SMUK

A business needs an EORIto register as a uk importer or exporter if they are either importing into the UK or exporting from the UK. An overseas supplier would not need an EORI if they are not the importer into the UK.

You should apply for an EORI number for both of these companies:

Thank you.

I hope you are all well. I have encountered an issue with my EORI number for import clearance. The problem is that my existing EORI number needs to be attached to my VAT number, causing complications in the import process. I have already initiated the cancellation process for the current EORI number and emailed seeking assistance. I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights from members who have faced a similar situation and resolved it successfully. Thank you in advance for your support. Best regards,

Hi Farhan Irshad,
You will need a new Government gateway account that you then apply for a VAT regsitered EORI number through.
Your Non VAT EORI number would then be ended after your VAT EORI has been granted.
Thank you.

Oh boy, sounds like you're stuck in a bureaucratic loop there! I've been through a similar situation with a different government process and, I get it, it can be incredibly frustrating. First and foremost, if you registered as Self Employed pre-internet era, then it's very likely that you don't have a Government Gateway account. That being said, the EORI Number is crucial if you're involved in importing or exporting goods, especially post-Brexit. My advice would be to try the following steps: Physical Visit: As archaic as it sounds, sometimes a face-to-face visit (if possible) to the nearest government office can be effective. It cuts out the endless waiting on phone lines and provides a direct way to resolve issues. Email Correspondence: In case you cannot get through on the phone, try emailing them. Though it might take a few days to get a response, it's still another channel of communication. Create a New Government Gateway Account: If you're sure you've never had one or can't remember the details, then starting afresh might be the easiest option. The registration process may ask for some details or documents to verify your identity, so keep those handy. Seek Expert Advice: If all else fails, consider seeking assistance from a professional or an agency that specializes in such services. They might charge a fee, but sometimes it's worth the convenience and peace of mind. Document Everything: This is key. Whenever you're dealing with such processes, make sure to keep a record of every conversation, email, or document sent. It will be helpful in case you need to reference it later. Lastly, hang in there. Bureaucratic processes can be a test of patience, but once you get through it, it'll feel like a massive accomplishment. Hope you get your EORI Number soon!

We are having an issue with the EORI number validation. According to our EORI number would be active by now, however on the EORI checker online ( it is still showing as invalid. The couriers will not deliver shipments as when they check it shows as invalid. We have spent multiple hours on the phone over the last 2 weeks and many emails with but the issue has not been sorted out yet. I don't know what else to do. I telephoned the helpline a few times but they cannot help as the EORI department is email only and that we should keep emailing them with the issue which we did. Can you help?

The  team that can assist with this query is EORI team.
If the trader has already made contact with that team, they will have to wait for their response.
For progress chasing I would advise contacting the Customs and International trade helpline on 0300 322 9434
Thank you.

Hello, I am struggling to understand how can I actually check my EORI NUMBER I got an email saying “Your EORI number is ready to use… For security reasons, we cannot send EORI numbers by email. You can obtain your EORI number by following these steps…” and telling me to use Welsh option to access but it’s not working It takes me back to apply but in Welsh “Go to GOV.UK and search for, 'Get an EORI'. Select the link that says, 'Get an EORI number'. On the Get an EORI number page, select the link that says, 'This guide is also available in Welsh (Cymraeg.)' On the Cael rhif EORI page, select the link that reads, 'Gwneud cais am rif EORI' On the Gwneud cais am rif EORI page, select the link that says, 'wirio statws cais rydych eisoes wedi'i wneud'. You'll find this link near the end of the page. Toggle to Welsh using the Cymraeg button near the start of the page. Sign in using your Government Gateway user ID and password.” Can anybody help ? Called 3 numbers and send emails, but my goods are stuck and need my number asap .
