Goods imported under Inward processing destroyed in UK.

Hello, we have imported goods under inward processing for repair and return purposes. However these parts were destroyed during an investigative test. My question is, when we declare this on the BOD for closure is this something we find we will still be charged VAT for as the goods never left the UK?
