Hello HMRC staff, Nice to meet you. I have the questions regarding CDS account and EORI number. I just saw Customs Declaration Service (CDS) have been added when I log-in into my business tax account this year (2025). And I haven’t use this EORI number for a long time because I have cancelled it on 2023 already. Is it okay to leave it and keep this service box in my business tax account? Or I need to remove it from my business tax account? And other question, can I use my old EORI number again if I re-apply EORI in future? Or HMRC will provide the new EORI number when apply again? Thanks for your help.

Hi Keung C,
A business needs a valid EORI number to move goods between Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and other countries. You can use below service to check if an EORI number beginning with GB (issued by the UK) is valid.

The Customs Declaration Service supports making import and export declarations when moving goods into and out of the UK, you will need an active subscription if you are looking to Import/Export goods.
Subscribing your Government Gateway user ID to the Customs Declaration Service will allow you to do things such as:
•    submit import and export declarations using software
•    get your postponed import VAT statements or get your import VAT certificates so you can complete your VAT Return
•    pay Customs Duty and import VAT
You do not need to subscribe to the Customs Declaration Service again if you have already done so for either imports or exports.

Hi Presumably you cancelled your EORI number because you no longer need it because you do not intend to either import into the UK or export anything out of the UK. If that is the case then you do not need access to the CDS dashboard on your Government gateway account. As recommended by HMRC Admin 20 double check your EORI has been cancelled. If you have cancelled your EORI number and need to import or export then you will need to reapply and get a new EORI number. You will not get a previously issued number back.
