Apologies for what might be a stupid question but I am relatively new to self assessment and find the whole thing slightly scary. As I completing my tax return, I have received an alert stating that my repair costs are too high relative to the rent I have received. I have invoices and proof of payment for roof repairs and two walls which required treatment for damp. This amounted to about half my rental income. I can prove I have undertaken the work with invoices and bank statements? Is there anything else I need to do? Thank you to anyone who is able to respond.

Hi,
If you are completing the online version of the Tax Return, you may attach documents as supporting evidence, however, this is an automated process so we would advise to contact HMRC for more in-depth advice on your personal situation:
Self Assessment: general enquiries
Thankyou.
