Hi there My wife owns 100% of a property which is currently being rented out. She lived in it briefly about 8 years ago (before moving into a property). It has been a rental property since that date. The property we lived in (which I owned and was our main residence) is just about to be sold. We are renting while we search for a new main residence, We intend to buy a main residence within the next year or so. My question is, is the additonal 3% stamp duty payable when we buy a new main residence? If my understanding is correct, if we moved from a main residence that we owned, to a new main residence which we bought, we would not pay the 3%. But because we will rent for the next 1 or 2 years, before buying a new residence, we have to pay the 3%? Many thanks in advance
