I applied to pay back, and forward, voluntary NI contributions. I received a letter confirming that I could pay class 3 contributions. This information was then checked as was incorrect and upon reapplying, I received a letter saying I could pay class 2 contributions. However, when I go into my forecast, it still shows the class 3 contribution amounts, I phoned the helpline to check, but the information was very unclear and I was kept on hold by the person to then not get clear information about my payments (why class 3 was showing or confirmation that I was doing the payment correctly). I can call the number again to confirm the payment has been received, However, why is the incorrect class 3 showing on my page still, when I have clearly received a letter saying I can pay class 2? It is very confusing.

Hi,
Your Personal Tax Account (PTA) will always show any shortfalls of voluntary National Insurance contributions at the class 3 rate.
If you have a letter from our International Teams to say that you may pay at the voluntary class 2 rate then please use these rates rather than the ones on the PTA.
Sorry for any confusion.
Thank you.
