Hi, I have a few years of gaps in NI as I've been living abroad for a while. I live in an EU country, and pay into the social security system here. I do not believe that I will ever move back to the UK and will probably retire here. Is it worth me paying the gaps and any future gaps that will inevitably occur over the coming years as I continue to reside outside the UK - even if I never move back? Will this 'count' for anything in my current EU country? Thanks

Hi mcfcok34,
HMRC is unable to advise you if it is worth you paying any shortfalls in your UK NI or for future years.
If you are living (and working) abroad, we would advise you to access the information online about living and working abroad Guidance on social security abroad: NI38 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
This leaflet will explain about NI whilst you are abroad.
Guidance on social security abroad: NI38 Updated 12 May 2023
