Hi, Could you advise if Paternity pay should start when the baby was born, unless requested at a later date no later than 56 days(when finishing)? So, on a weekly payroll, if the baby was born on a Tuesday pay will start from then for one or two consecutive weeks - if pay has been requested from date of birth. Or should paternity pay be paid in full weeks?

Hi Lisa PayrollLady,

The father will tell you when they wish to take this.
Unlike maternity leave there is no legal obligation for the father to take the leave.
Please see:
SPM140500 - Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP) - general information: Paternity Leave (PL)
Thank you.
