Hi, My income tax for 2023-2024 still shows as 'not yet calculated'. I wrote to HMRC in January, but apparently won't get a response until the end of June this year (at the earliest, the date moves back all the time). I was taxed for that year on a 0T tax code (because previously I was a self assesment user). I think I'm owed some tax. I'd really like to get this resolved, but I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

Not HMRC...if you dont wish to wait, and cant get through to speak to HRMC and they wont speed it up IF (and its a big IF) you are certain you are due a refund you could vountarily submit under SA online, this would then produce the calculation immediately and if a refund and not selected for secutiry checks a refund pamyent in days...however, if selected for security checks would be much longer (many months and maybe longer than under PAYE you are currently waiting on) and if you are not due a refund but owe HMRC then you could end up with penalties...so up to you...personal choice.

Pear to Pear .

Thanks, yes, I thought I might be able to submit an SA, but I can't, the system seems to think I already have submitted one (which I think may have happened becasue I spoke to HMRC back in 2023 to check if I needed to complete one as my income for the year was much lower than previous years. I guess I'll just have to wait until they get back to me :) Thanks for the reply though!

Hi Tony Scully,
If your 23/24 tax overpayment still hasn't been calculated, there may be an issue with your record, or we may be waiting on some information from either yourself, or a source of income.
Please contact us by webchat or phone here:
Income Tax: general enquiries
To allow us to review your record and confirm the reason for the delay.
Thank you.

Thanks. I did already speak to someone on the phone at HMRC, their reply was basically 'it'll be calcaulted when we calculate it, go away' :) I don't know what HMRC could be waiting for. I have one employer in the that year (for part of the year), and no other income. I guess I can either sit on the phone for a couple of hours, or just wait until HMRC get round to looking at my letter (posted to them in January). Thanks again fot the reply.

Make a complaint...HMRC has already broken its charter in not acting sooner on information in a timely manner.
