Hi I recently received a letter dated 30th June for a tax refund I am owed. I literally missed making the request to the day (21 days) so I could have it directly paid. In the online gateway the status has changed to saying my refund is being processed when I could have asked for the BACS transfer. I am not happy waiting for several weeks for a cheque and would like to know if it is possible to still have a bank transfer before the cheque gets issued? If I am out of luck here, how long will the cheque take? Thank you

We’ve been waiting 4 weeks for a BACS refund that has apparently been paid. Apparently there’s a huge delay on tax refunds due to a backlog. So be prepared to wait!

Hi Pigeon,

If the Personal Tax Account is no longer giving you the option to claim this online, it will have updated on our system to issue a cheque. If we were to send a request to cancel the cheque, it would not revert back to allowing a BACS claim to be made.

A cheque can take up to 3 weeks to arrive from the date of issue.

Thank you.
