My husband is facing redundancy and has applied for a new role which means he will have a company car. He is waiting for his contract and official start date but the company have asked him to order his vehicle as there is a long waiting list. As his role needs him to go out regularly to client sites they are proposing giving him a hire vehicle whilst his car is on order. Do we need to pay company car tax on the hire car or do we just inform HMRC once he has his own company vehicle?

Hi,

You are only required to pay tax on this if there is private use of the vehicle outside business travel. The employer will be able to confirm this to him.

Thank you.
