So on hold again to HMRC with nothing better to do. Short recap: I submitted a P55 on JUNE 30 given a completion date in July. This moved to August then September 7. The September date came and the site updated with "Estimated completion20 Jul 2022" . I've been chasing since the 7th no real progress. I've made a complaint which has now finally been acknowledged saying it'll be looked at as soon as possible. Contacted HMRC last Friday to be told my claim had been worked last Tuesday. Given the period of national mourning and Monday funeral I've given it until today a full week to again chase. Just 24 minutes on hold, Spoke to a nice young lady who couldn't really help but did offer to put me through to the Technical Team who were dealing with it. My call was Cold Dropped to a poor unsuspecting Senior Technical Officer who thankfully got to the bottom of the issue using her 38 years experience. She gave me a fully unrushed detailed explanation and a date of when the payment will be made (system dependent}. She was absolutely brilliant. If only some of the knowledge that she and no doubt countless others have could be imparted on the front line call handlers. This coupled with a better scheduling and planning system would make for a much better customer experience. I would love to quote the person's name but obviously won't as it could result in people trying to get short cut the system.

As suggested by HMRC Admin 17, I contacted the Helpline by phone today. Explained the situation and was kept on hold for about 15 mins while the matter was looked into. I was eventually told that it was being dealt with by a specialist team and would be processed 'sooner rather than later', a bit vague but I think I was dealing with a relatively junior person so didn't think it was worth pushing it any further. I did suggest as a matter of courtesy, the tracking system should be updated once the estimated completion date had passed, particularly when it is over a month overdue! I await further progress.

My P55 was acknowledged received by the HMRC mid May 2022. After 3 months I called them and had to wait 30 min for someone to answer. They said that the P55 had been received but was not allocated to a person. I called a month later and still my P55 had not been allocated to anyone. I was told that these waiting times were normal! It is now 4.5 months and still nothing. I complained on their website and that was acknowledged a week later. 2 weeks after that still no response! This is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. The HMRC have overcharged me at source as I was drawing down a lump sum from my pension and then one feels absolutely powerless to get a rebate. Any advice on how I can escalate this would be welcome. It seems many people are in similar positions but not as many months as I have been subjected to.

To raise this further you would need to contact our complaints department:

I submitted a P53SUB on 20/7 and an official complaint on 18/8 due to excessive delay. I also submitted a P55SUB on 19/9. None of the above have been dealt with, and I have been forced to take a loan. I am a pensioner and I find it disgusting that despite umpteen hour long phone calls and form filling, I am no further forward than I was nearly 3 months ago. I’ve not even been given the name or contact number of the complaint handler. Yet when I was in business I would be fined if I was so much as a day late in submitting a return. Any interest I get , if any, will be a 7th of what HMRC charge late tax payers. My next step is to take HMRC to Court.

Hello, I have been waiting for 4 months for a refund after submitting a P55SUB online in June. Spent 45 mind bending minutes on their call centre last week listening to a 10 sec loop of "music" before someone answered, who was not authorised to deal with my case, yet assured me that I would be refunded ASAP. After the phone call I then received a telephone message that I should have submitted a P55 and was advised to do so again!

Similar situation..submitted P55 online 28/7 acknowledged receipt, estimated date 14/8 which has never changed. Rang early September and was told that they were up to processing 20/6 applications. Therefore at least another month. Rang 4/10 was told on phone that it would be done by 6/10 otherwise it would be picked up by the specialist team couldn't give me the date that they were up to processing as they had stopped doing that - she presumed they had caught up to normal time scales. Rang 10/10 and told it would be passed onto the specialist team and I would be contacted but it could take another 8 weeks for a response from them! All the time my screen still says estimate 14/8. If anyone knows of any recent success and timescales I would be interested although I suspect they would not then be on this forum thread.

Ok an update. Yesterday 11/10 I got an email from the complaint handler asking me to call them. They said they had agreed the refund and wanted my bank details. The refund was being sent to the payment team and they said they would send me a message by Friday to say that the refund had been sent. It then took 5 working days for the Bacs to arrive. No messages yet though.

Just to report a positive outcome in my case, I have finally been paid! It took around 11 weeks in total. I did have to take out a loan to cover the delay so not a great situation but realise that I am better off than many. Best wishes to those still fighting the system!

Hello all, if anything Googling this problem has just reassured me that my P55 application hasn't fallen through the net, though it does say on my portal received on 11/9 with a completion date of 3/10 which is well gone. Sadly I'm not expecting this to be dealt with any time soon and like one post notes; the fines imposed on the public by HMRC, particularly business owners for late submission do make this system in to a mockery. On a similar issue the recent 8 week+ delay I had receiving a final Vat repayment was finally dealt with via the Helpline who escalated it to a technical support member to call me back within 10 days and within an hour of the call back the payment was in my Companies bank. Though it may be a different team dealing with P55 forms perseverence through frustratingly long wait times on phone calls is the only way to resolve these issues unfortunately so don't give up and demand the technical support callback!

I submitted my P55SUB on 27th August with an expected completion date of 19 September and like everyone else here have received nothing to date nearly 8 weeks since submission, so I presume I will be waiting at least another month before my submission is reviewed based on most peoples experiences. surely given these unacceptable delays HMRC could at least acknowledge the current delays and give a realistic timeframe rather the long passed completion date shown on your online record.

My comments match various comments already posted by other members. They received my P55 on line 19th July 2022. Estimated date for completion was 9th Aug Rang them after this date and was told will be looked at on 17th Oct Rang them on 20th Oct was told had been assessed on 5th Oct, a letter had been drafted and only needed final checking to release payment. Was told to ring on 28th Oct if I had not received anything, so I rang again on this date as nothing was received This time they took my number and said would ring back....they still haven't rang Rang again 31st Oct and they said no further progress had been made and they themselves can't even contact the 'Special Dept' who process these refunds. That's a bit strange as the person I spoke to on the 20th Oct said it had been assessed on the 5th Oct and only needed final checking from this 'Special Dept'
