Hello, I have two jobs at the moment. My main job is £45,000 and my second job is £23,400. Currently my tax codes are 415L for my main job and BR for my second job. I am up for a promotion in my main job, to £60,000. Regarding my tax codes, should my tax code be updated to 1257L for my main job and D0 for my second job to ensure that I'm paying the higher rate of tax on both? Thank you

Hi,

As you were not fully into the 40% threshold on either job, there would be an adjustment in your 415L code to collect tax due at 40%.

If this changes and you are into the higher rate for the main job, you are correct you will need to update this and D0 will be applied to the second job.

Thank you

Thanks very much. In terms of updating my tax code when my promotion comes through, do I let Payroll know myself that the tax code needs to be changed to prevent any issues?

Hi,

You will need to contact our Income Tax department to do this, payroll will not change a tax code unless it has been sent by HMRC.
