Good evening Are there any tax implications for me, a UK tax paying citizen, receiving a cash gift from my parents in the UAE and are there any limits on the amount threshold if so? Thank you

Hi LondonR,
There are no Income Tax implications on the receipt of a cash gift unless the cash gift generates interest or dividends.
These would then potentially be subject to tax.
Further guidance can be found here:
Tax on savings interest
Tax on dividends
Thank you.

Hi there, I am thinking of giving a friend a cash gift to pay off a mortgage. From what I understand there is no income tax or capital gains tax to pay. IHT would only be applicable if I die within the next 7 years. Is this the case? Many thanks.

Hi MartinRL,
You are correct.
There is no tax implication from a cash gift and only Inheritance Tax if you die within7 years of making the gift.
Thank you.
