HMRC randomly closed down my self assessment account at the end of last year without informing me. It was only when I logged in that it appeared the self assessment part was no longer there. Upon contacting them, they said they had sent letters which I hadn’t responded to.. I never received them. All I had to do was send off documents confirming my identity, I did this in January and had confirmation in January that my identity had been verified and I would now be issued with a new UTR within 45 working days. We’re now almost 6 months in and I STILL haven’t received a new UTR. I’ve called multiple times only to be told that it will arrive in the next few weeks but it has not yet been sent. I urgently need to file my tax return as I need proof of income for moving house. Does anyone else have any similar experiences or any help they can offer? I will be homeless if I’m not able to demonstrate proof of earnings all because HMRC are not able to post out a simple letter.

Hi
Unfortunately i wouldnt be able to provide advice regarding this as we would need to access your record to see the current position.
If you have contacted us by telephone, we should be able to send a referral to the department who were reviewing your record to advise that the new UTR hasn't been issued.
Thankyou.
Regards.
