On my account it says hmrc has paid your refund, however I don't have the money in my account. I opted to have it paid into my account but when I go to the section "if you have not got your refund" it says "It can take up to 3 weeks for your cheque to arrive." Is this a default message or has hmrc decided to send a cheque?

i also got the same thing today and no refund has been put into my account !

Did you get the message about a cheque in 3 weeks? I'll update here if I get the money.

If a BACS payment has been made it can take up to 10 working days from the date of issue.
If you have not received the refund or are unsure how it has been issued you should contact our helpline.

Glad we’re not the only ones, ours says paid on Friday 24th June. Then get told 5 working days then get told 10 working days. Partner is a cancer patient who is unable to work and we’re skipping meals so we can feed our kids whilst waiting for a 5 figure tax refund that we’ve been owed since December. HMRC is a joke. Hope you get your money soon I’ll update when we do!

I've been told HMRC paid me a refund after going through gateway to receive the money straight into my account, but the money isn't in my bank and my bank has said there is nothing that has been paid in or nothing processing for that amount? have I made an error or is extra time the payment takes to process?

To anyone waiting 10 days for a refund, don’t hold your breath. Working day 10 here and still no money. Suspect they will use the “security checks” excuse when we finally manage to get through to the phone lines.
