My Mum passed away last year in Singapore. I am likely to receive some inhertance when the her Will is excuted later in the year. Am I liable for inheritance Tax on any monies received? Do i have to inform the Inland Revenue on receipt of any inheritance? Thank You

Hi Glasgow Roadt,

UK inheritance tax is payable by the estate of UK residents or non-UK residents with assets in the UK, such as property.

If your late mother was not resident in the UK and had no assets here, then her estate will have no UK inheritance tax to pay.

Any inheritance you receive from the estate and you bring to the UK, is not taxable.

Any interest or dividends arising from your inheritance, will be subject to UK tax.

Thank you.
