Hello HMRC, I am working for a foreign government as a representative on government service in the UK. My country has a Double Tax Agreement with the UK government covering government service and salary obligations. Can I confirm that I am not required to have a NI number, nor pay any income tax? Thanks

Hi foreignservice,

As you have not stated which other country is involved, this question cannot be answered re the tax position.

With regards to the question about you requiring a National Insurance number, you can only apply for a UK National Insurance number if they are living in the UK.

Thank you.
