Hi, Just wondered if it was possible if I could pay underpayment of tax (for year 2023/2024) in a lump sum rather than having my tax code adjusted for next year, as the amount is very small and feel as though I might as well just clear it off in a lump sum. If you are able to clear it in a lump sum can you pay it online on your personal tax account online using a debt/credit card? Or do you have to call up the income tax help line to pay off the tax over the phone? Or does it have to be done with a cheque and a P254 payslip. Also how long will I have to pay off the tax before HMRC start to work out my tax code for next year, as I want to of cleared off the balance of tax before they start working out tax codes for next year so it isn't included. Please let me know. Many Thanks.

Hi ,

If you received a P800 calculation detailing the underpayment, this should have information on how to pay your underpayment.

You may be able to pay this online using your Personal Tax Account.

If this option isn't shown on your P800, you can make the direct payment using a cheque and a P254 payslip .

Thank you .

Hi, Thanks for the reply HMRC Admin 17. It did give me the option to pay in my online personal tax account using BACS transfer or credit/debit card. So I paid the underpayment off using my debit card so the balance is now clear. Thanks.
