I don't understand why my Personal Allowance has massively reduced from £12570 to £7,470 Apparently my tax free amount has dropped by over £5000 (due to underpaying last year however it wasnt £5000. Help - this seems wrong I don't understand (a) I would like to understand why and how I apparently have underpaid tax, and (b) why have it been up to over £5000

Not HMRC...if the allowance has gone down £5100 and you are basic rate the underpayment was £1020 (£5100 x 20% = £1020). If higher rate the underpayment would be £2040...to get to whether this is right check your previous years tax calculation/speak to HMRC.
