> You will need to write to our Income Tax department to advise of his name and address and > we can look to cancel the cheque and issue a replacement. Ok, I can do that (since I could not get through the call), but where exactly should I write and what should I write/send? I checked the link you've shared (Income Tax: general inquiries) but there's nothing more than a contact to call. I was not able to find any form, email etc... The only address I found was the post office address. Are you advising me to send a traditional mail? If that's the case what should I attach / send? Original of my cheque? Tax Calculation I received? copies?

Hi Sander Zwarthof,

HMRC is only able to issue a payble order, that must be cashed in a UK bank or buiding society account. It is possible to nominate someone whom you trust, who can receive the Payable order on your behalf and cash it into a UK bank or building society account. You will need to return the payable order to HMRC, along with a letter confirming that you nominate an individual (include a full name and address). Once we have confirmed that the original payable order has been cancelled, we can reissue to the appointed nominee.

Thank you.

Hello, I have moved abroad and filled the form online for the tax refund on the 25th of September 2022. The request has been processed but I don't know the outcome. How do I now if I am eligible for a refund and if the check has been issued? I have asked for it to be sent to an UK address but so far I have nothing. How long does it take? It has been almost 4 months. Thanks.

Hi floracsak,

You will need to check if your bank will allow you to cash the cheque. It would be valid for 6 months from the issue date.

Thank you.

Hi

Mateusz Chlodnicki  ,

The address is shown at the bottom of the page. it's

Pay As You Earn and Self Assessment,
HM Revenue and Customs,
BX9 1AS, United Kingdom.

This would be by traditional mail.

You do not need to include the cheque when you write to us you should just confirm the amount the cheque was for and
we will be able to locate the details on our system .

Thank you.

Hi, I have a problem with my tax refund cheque. I have applied for tax refund twice in last year, in October HMRC has sent cheque on wrong address, then on 9th of December I have applied again and lady said that it takes a couple of weeks and I will receive my cheque. I’m waiting over a moth, and today I have rung the HMRC contact centre. Worker said that I have to wait 18 weeks (from 9th December till 14th April) but then unfortunately my phone has died, so I have rung again… When I have rung another time, lady said that I have to wait 14 weeks from 9th of December, but then quickly changed her mind because she checked that I have rung an hour ago, and she also let me wait till 14th of April (18 weeks). Can you let me know for how long I will have to wait for this cheque? 14 or 18 weeks? I’m so frustrated because HMRC make an address mistake and I have to wait for my money such a long time…

Hi Christian28,

You would need to confirm your personal details and the address you want a replacement cheque to.
If you wished to nominate someone else to receive the cheque you would need to provide their details.

Hi, I received a cheque from HMRC but my bank(Revolut) doesn't offer the option to cash it and I have no one to nominate for a replacement cheque. How should I proceed to cash it? What are the options that I have to receive the money? Thanks in advance,

Please my refund was issued as a check to an agent who claims they made a claim on my behalf but I did not ask anyone to do that. how can I get that check cancelled and get it reissued to my address? And how do I get them removed from my file?

I have been sent a letter saying I’m owed a tax refund and that the letter states the cheque is being sent to “TAX FREE”. Who are they and how do I claim my refund?
