I'm a Scottish higher-rate tax payer (>£60k), with one child who's still in full-time education. Last year I received £1133 of Child Benefit, which is usually clawed back through my tax code. However, I can't figure out how this is calculated: my code is S794L, which shows only one Deduction of £4,940 off my Personal Allowance - presumably to claw back that £1133; but how is that calculated?

Hi Kenny,
If the Child Benefit is £1133 for the current year, I would expect the deduction to be £2697 as you would pay 42% tax on this figure to recover £1133.
If you are unaware of anything else in your code which would cause the tax free amount to be reduced further, please contact us to query the code.
