I have received my new tax code letter showing my NI number. However the suffix letter states C, yet all my payslips state A. I see from the notes that C is for those persons past pension age, I am not and am 56. Is this an error , do I remain as A or change to C? Thanks

Hi,

The suffix on your National Insurance number has nothing to do with your age.

It may be that you are confusing the category of class 1 National Insurance you pay, rather than the suffix on your National Insurance number.

The National Insurance number you have remains unchanged throughout your life. If there is any confusion over your National Insurance number, including the suffix, you can sign onto your personal tax account on GOV.UK, and this will confirm your correct National Insurance number.

Thank you.
