Good morning, I work as a private tutor and recently did some work helping the child of a wealthy non-UK resident family to pass his exams. They paid me for this work as expected. He passed his exams with a high mark and they gave me a substantial cash gift to thank me. I will be paying tax on the income I earned as standard. Do I also need to pay tax on the cash gift? Many thanks for your help.
