I made an additional contribution of £4000 to my pension on 15th March 2024 by faster payments and posted the paperwork to the pension company in the UK. The cut off date for the contribution to be counted in this tax year 2023-24 was 3rd April. The pension company have not counted my contribution until 10th April . For the purposes of self assessment can I count the contribution as part of the 2023-2024 tax year as the money was transferred 2 .5 weeks ahead of this? I have read the HMRC guidance but it is not clear as to what happens in this situation.

Hi,
No.
This would be seen as making the payment by debit card and the date of payment is the date the payment is received by the scheme administrator.
See PTM041000 - Contributions: essential principles Deemed date of contributions
Thank you.
