I moved from Hong Kong to the UK in July of 2024. As I have income from Hong Kong (April-August 2024), I need to do the self assessment in this tax year (23-24). I had applied for the UTR on the website of the gov. gataway in the early September, and I just got the reply on 11 Oct 2024, which said that the UTR/self assessment application was rejected becasue my information did not match with their records. I'm not sure is it a problem of the last name. They ask me to update my personal information and resubmit the application. However, the application deadline of the UTR has passed and I'm not sure what I can do to resubmit the application after update the personal information. What can I do now? Will I get a fine for the late submission of the self-assessment if I cannot get the UTR?
