Hi, instead of the flat rate for working from home I want to apportion the rate, as I have a home office used entirely for work and I work solely from home. I will be accounting for the fact that it's 1 room out of 7 and I work approx 230 days a year, however when accounting for my mortgage interest do I need to halve the figure as it's a joint mortgage (with my husband), and then do the other calculations?

Hi,

Yes, if you jointly own the property and pay 50% of the mortgage, the starting point of your mortgage interest claim would be to halve the annual interest paid (before you go on apportion the figure further to reflect the fact that you work in 1 room out of the 7).

Thank you.
