I'm a self-employed musician. I received a monthly grant last year from a third-party organisation to support my work- not related to any specific project. Is this taxable? Thank you.

If the purpose of the monthly grant you received was to replace lost revenue, it is likely to be taxable. To enable HMRC to give you a definitive answer, please confirm (a) which organisation paid the grant and (b) the terms under which the grant was made.

Thank you.

Hi, The organisation is called Help Musicians UK. The grant was indeed designed to help self-employed musicians replace lost income due to coronavirus, however having lost income was not a condition for receiving the grant. The terms of the grant were that the majority of income had to be from performing and that I was eligible and already receiving universal credit. Thank you for your response.
