I think I've been filling this in wrong, so I'd like some clarity on what to enter. My situation is: I am in the higher rate tax bracket at 40% Me employer puts in 8% before tax is deducted (x). I pay in 6.5% of my gross salary (y). So what figure do I enter into page TR4 box 1? At the moment I am putting (x+y) + the 20% relief. Thanks Pete

Hi ,

If the pension contribution is deducted from your wage before tax is calculated then you will already have received relief and
would not declare on your Self Assessment.

If the pension contributions are from your net wage then it would be your contribution plus the 20% relief that you would declare on
the Self Assessment tax return.

Thank you  .
