How does Government Gateway handle tax returns submitted by people with mental health problems? We are OAPs that need to file tax returns regarding our total income including State Pension and modest additional pensions. I have calculated our respective incomes and for the avoidance of doubt intend to send the completed forms SA100 by post or if possible by email. Unfortunately my husband, who has vascular dementia, wants to send in a calculation of his own device using Government Gateway. If he succeeds, this will undoubtedly end in tears as he has a disastrous track record trying to send in any kind of form. I cannot really prevent him from doing this and am extremely concerned as his calculation has been done completely without consulting me. How do you handle this kind of issue? Regards

Hi,
If your husband would prefer to send his return via the Government Gateway, but requires assistance, contact us by webchat or phone via
Self Assessment: general enquiries -
we can provide assitance to him directly or, with his permission, talk to you.
We can then help with the filing of the return, and review the details on the return submitted, where we may be able to make corrections if necessary.
Thank you.
