Self assessment payment not allocated to account

Hi, I wonder if anyone else has had this experience. HMRC have not allocated my self assessment payment to my account. They have advised they will 'trace' the payment but this may take until 20 March to be resolved! However, it may take less... My bank have told me it is possible to trace a payment in <24 hours. I presume the issue is a backlog of misplaced payments. Has this happened to anyone else? thanks

Our requests are processed in date order which is why your payment would not be traced straight away.
