Hi. Last year (20-21), I made a loss on my self-employment income of 2,161, and in my SA form for that year, it shows that loss in the relevant boxes ((SEF section 48,65, 77, 78). However in Box 80 of that form ("Total loss to carry forward after all other set-offs"), it only let me enter 1,182. This year, I made a profit, so can I use the full 2,161 loss? Or am I only allowed to use the 1,182 loss I put in Box 80? Many thanks.

Hi,

If you have entered any figures into box SEF78, then you have set that figure against other income in 20/21.

This amount cannot then be carried forward.

Only unused losses can be carried forward.

For a more details explanation, you will need to contact the self assessment helpline on 0300 200 3310 .

Thank you.
