Can anyone help me please as I am so confused. I did some freelance work for 9 months within the 23/24 tax year. A few weeks ago I completed a self assessment and now my "current position" is that I owe £4.2k and it says half of that is from 24/25 tax year? I completed a "stopping self employment" form online last week hoping no tax from the coming tax year would be calculated but it has (or maybe Im reading it all wrong). When I stopped my freelance work, I worked out I would owe a little over £2k in tax so not sure why it is now £4k. Below is a copy paste from my "current position" and payments I owe. Can anyone please help me make sense of this. Description (Tax year summary) Amount (£) Amount (becoming due) Tax year ending 05 Apr 2025 First payment on account 31 Jan 2025 1,065.90 Tax year ending 05 Apr 2025 Second payment on account 31 Jul 2025 1,065.90 Tax year ending 05 Apr 2024 Balancing payment 31 Jan 2025 2,131.80 Total 4,263.60
