My husband, up until last year received an SA200 to fill in and send off. Some years ago we were in an IVA and he was given a temporary UTR and did his accounts online (I never understood that). However, some years ago he reverted back to his usual UTR. Unfortunately now he is unable to do his accounts on line, because his old UTR is still in the system. We have written to HMRC twice (no reply), tried to call (hours waiting on line), no helpline available. WHY???

Hi
As he was in an IVA, the original UTR should not be used.
He should contact us on webchat to have this updated - Go to Gov.uk and search 'contact HMRC'.
Then choose Self-Assessment and go to 'Ask HMRC Online'.
Thankyou.

We tried using your "Ask HMRC Online" system for the above to happen, and we cannot get any sense out of it. We need to speak to a human being.

I have yet to receive the short tax return for tax year 2023/2024 which I normally receive in the past before August. I tried calling HMRC and was told the waiting time is 20 minutes. I wrote to them by first class signed for delivery on 16 August to ask for the SA200 2024 form and have yet to receive a reply. The deadline is 5 October and will I be penalized for late submission. Or is it that I am no longer required to fill the tax return being over 75 years old? Any help, please?

Hi Hock Chua,
You can find out when you can expect to receive a reply form HMRC here:
Check when you can expect a reply from HMRC
You can still contact HMRC direct to issue a paper SA200:
Self Assessment: general enquiries
You can check if you meet Self Assessment criteria here:
Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return
Thank you.
