I am paying my tax bill with monthly payments first debit. Just received a late penalty charge. Can I appeal this?

Hi Lorna B,

If you have set up a payment plan, we can only receive the penalty once the payment plan has been completed as agreed.

Thank you.

Just to clarify; I’ve been paying my self assessment tax bill with monthly direct debits over the year since Jan. Do I have to therefore pay the £40 late penalty fee now and then it looks like another penalty fee of £100 in 3 months? And are there then further penalty fees over the year as the bill is spread over one year?

There are late payment penalties for 30 days, 6 months and 12 months.

If you agreed a time to pay plan with our Debt Management team, we can review the penalties after the payment plan has been completed.

Thank you
