when I've done the 2020-2021 tax return , I was asked to pay by end of march 2022 the sum of 2,725.10 ( £1,869.60 TAX OWED + £855.50 ADVANCE PAYMENT for 21/22 tax year) and another advance to be paid by end of June of £855.50. Today 19/04 I've done the 2021-2022 tax return and it seems that I've already overpaid, trough CIS, without taking into consideration the already paid advance payment (£855) and still shows that I have to pay the other advance of £855. My question is: How do I Get the £855 that I've paid in advance and how do I settle the other £855 in debt, since there was no box in the self return form to include tax paid in advance?

Hi claudelvl.

The tax return calculation does not take into account any payments made.
This will be shown on your statement after 72 hours once the return is processed onto our systems.

Thank you.

I dont understand why a person is expected to pay tax in advance when he/she has not yet earned the taxable income in question. Why ?

If you are referencing the Payments on Account, the first one is due 9 months into the tax year, and
the second one is due just under 3 months after the tax year has ended.
