I took early retirement in 2020 and received my private teachers pension from Sept 2020 to date on which I pay tax. In October 2021 I started doing some freelance admin work for just a couple of hours a week. What is the process for paying tax on the small amount I am paid? When do I complete the self assessment for 2021-22? I know it is probably detailed somewhere but cannot find in simple terms what I now need to do! Thank you for any help.

Hi,

You can find guidance here:

Tax-free allowances on property and trading income

The tax return for 2021/22 has a paper filing date of 30/10/2022 and an online filing date of 31/01/2023.

Thank you.

Thank you for the dates. So if I am paid less than £1000 in the tax year, I do not submit a return? Even though I am over the personal allowance in my pension?

Hi Repro5,

That is correct.

Thank you.
