My partner has just checked his forecast and it says he has 28 full years paid contributions. However it says he only needs 1 year to make it up to full pension rate. Is this because the years he did pay were paid at a much higher amount? I’m confused

Hi,

HMRC cannot advise on how your state pension is calculated.

Your NI record may also show Class 1 or Class 3 credits:

Benefit credits can be either class 1 or class 3 credits.

You may also have up to 3 years juvenile credits which are shown as Class 3 credits.  Up to the 05/04/2010 young people get class 3 credits for the whole tax years which contain their 16th, 17th and 18th birthdays.
Prior to 1975 credits were awarded only to the week prior to the age of 18.  These credits only count for State Pension.

You can view your full National Insurance record via your Personal Tax Account which will show any non-paid tax years where credits have been awarded.

If you still have state pension queries you will need to contact the Future Pensions Service on 0800 731 0175, please be advised they are experiencing high call volumes at present.

You can also put your query in writing to:

Thank you.
