Hi there, I’m calculating my pension contributions for a pension charge as my allowance for 21/22 has tapered to the min 4K and no carry forward from previous year. For calculating pension contributions : I have a work scheme that 8% employer and I pay 5% salary sacrifice . It’s paid direct from salary before deductions. Money purchase scheme . I also have a personal SIPP money purchase scheme that I contribute ‘x’ per month from my bank account . For calculating the total contribution(purpose to calculate pension tax charge) is it simply the sum total of the annual contributions from employer 8% plus 5% salary sacrifice plus the annual amount of ‘x’ ? Thanks

Hi John Evans,

Yes, you need to include all pension contributions plus tax relief. Further guidance is at:

Work out your reduced (tapered) annual allowance

Thank you.
