I have received bank interest and dividends from Hong Kong, less than 50 pounds from mid-Jan to 5 April 2022. 1) Is it necessary to submit self assessment? 2) if no need to submit self-assessment, whether I need to apply for split-year treatment (SA106) in this tax period (2020-2021)? Thank you.

Hi,

Please have a look at :

Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return   .

This tool will advise you whether you need to declare your interest and dividends on a self assessment tax return.

Thank you.

I have checked no need to send a self assessment tax return in the period 14 Jan to 5 April 2022. From 6 April 2020 to 13 Jan 2021, I have interest and dividend earned in Hong Kong. But I am not sure whether I still need to apply for split-year treatment. Please advise. Thank you.

Hi,

HMRC cannot advise if you need to apply for spit year treatment as your residency is for you to decide.

If you do wish to apply for it then you do need to complete a tax return .

Thank you.
