Tax calculation is showing I owe £2000 for 2020-21 .It then says estimated payment for by Jan31st 22 is £1000 and says note second payment £1000 by 31st of July But the final part says - balancing payment is 2000 for 2020-21 1st payment due of 1000 by January 31st Total due by January 31st is £3000 ?? I don't understand the 2000 is owed payable in two haves but is asking for the total amount plus the January Payment of £1000?

The amount due by 31/01/2022 would be the remainder of any amount for 20/21 which is £2000 plus the first payment on account for 21/22 of £1000.

Thank you.

If you will not owe anything for 21/22 you can make a request to reduce the Payments on Account :

Understand your Self Assessment tax bill    .

Thank you.
