Hi, I moved from employed to self employed in July 2022 and I have registered as self employed. When it comes to doing my tax return for 22/23, when do I have to do it by? Also, will it take into account the tax and NI I’ve already paid when I was employed (April to July 2022)? Thanks.

You can complete a tax return for tax year 2022 to 2023 from 6 April 2023. The deadlines for that return are 31 October 2023 for paper submission and 31 January 2024 for online submission.

When completing the return you will declare both the employed and self employed income you had during the tax year.

Thank you.

Okay thanks, Will the self assessment then say if I need to pay any extra tax and NI?

If you register for self employment at this link, you will be able to register for class 2 NIC, as well as self employment:

Thank you.
