I received a letter stating that I am unable to use GOV.UK Verify after 1 April 2022 to file a tax return. I must use Government Gateway. I have an account and a UTR Number but nowhere on the screen when I login is there anything about self assessment. I have created a new Government Gateway account but there is still nothing about self assessment. I have been in touch with HMRC Online Services who were unable to resolve this and have sent it to the technical department. What a sad state of affairs considering 1 April 2022 is 10 days away. Can anybody help???

Hi,

To access Self Assessment services via the Government Gateway, firstly please sign on to Self Assessment online services using the link below.

When you reach the page headed Business Tax Summary, please click on the blue  ‘get online access to a tax, duty or scheme’ hyperlink,
and that should lead you to the Self Assessment portal:

File your Self Assessment tax return online  .

Thank you.

Hi,

If you go to:

Sign in using Government Gateway

and select Government Gateway, after signing in select 'enrol for service' at the side of Self Assessment on the "Services you can add" page.

This should allow you to enrol for SA Online if you enter your UTR and post code when promoted.

If this does not work you will need to speak with our Self Assessment department to ensure your records are linked correctly:

Self Assessment: general enquiries   .

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. When I use the link you sent I get: You cannot access the service from this page To access this service, you must return to the government page you came from and start again. You can also start again from the GOV.UK home page. You might need your Government Gateway user ID and password. Make sure your web browser can accept cookies. Kass

Hi,

Please contact the Online Helpdesk as they can check you have registered for the Self Assessment part of the online process
when you set up your Personal Tax Account, they can also re send your original Log-in details which are linked to Self Assessment.

Unfortunately your query is case specific therefore I am unable to assist you further.

See link:
