Hi, I'm filling out a self assessment and would like some clarification. I have £X payment on account which is more than enough to cover the tax due for tax year 21/22 but when viewing the calculation prior to submitting the payment on account is not being accounted for anywhere and tax due has not taken into account any of the payments made already toward the tax year in question. Will the payment on account be applied/recalculated after submitting the return?

From looking across several posts in the forum it seems that an 'outstanding balance' is only calculated post self assessment submission. I.e. the payment on account is only 'applied' 72hrs after submitting the return. Can you please confirm if that is correct?

Hi,

Yes. Once the return is processed this will update online to show the position.

Thank you.
