Hi. I’m thinking of going self employed and want to use the flat rate VAT scheme. But, I will have two tyre of customers. One on driver training at 12% claim rate and one in transportation of goods at 10% clim rate. Does this mean that the flat rate simply won’t work? Or do I just claim back the lesser rate for everything? Thank you.

Hello if your business falls into two catergories under the flat rate sceme please refer to section 4.8 of notice below, with regards claiming back VAT if you are on the flat rate you can only claim VAT back on capital assets please refer to section 15 of the same guidance:

VAT Notice 733: Flat Rate Scheme for small businesses

Thank you.
