Hi, Can a VAT repayment be made to the bank account of a company's sole director if the business bank account has been closed? Thanks

Short answer is no, the VAT refund belongs to the company, not the Director. The Director is not the company. If the business is still VAT registered, why has the bank account been closed? If the company is VAT deregistered, then you will need to speak to HMRC to explain the situation.

Thanks for your reply Jason. The company is to be deregistered. I have been told that corporation tax refunds can be made to the director after a company has ceased trading and the bank account has been closed so I was wondering if this applied to VAT as well. I will give HMRC a call.

Hi.

There are circumstances in which repayments can be made to a bank account other than the business bank account.

Please write to the following address to request this:

Third Party Repayments
HMRC, VAT 3 unit,
DMB 613,
BX5 5AB

Thank you.
